Mahama and NDC campaign to abolish "talk tax" but fail-Gabby responds to promise to abolish levy

Gabby Ochere Darco, a key member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has responded to the promise of former President John Mahama's campaign for the  future National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration to abolish the uprising.

Gabby recalled that in 2007/2008  Mahama and NDC strongly opposed the introduction of the "talk tax" and campaigned to abolish it if elected.

After winning his 2008 election, he said, they couldn't fulfill that promise.

"In 2007/2008, John Mahama and NDC strongly opposed the introduction of the" talk tax "and proposed to abolish it if elected. They won in 2008, but remained silent. When Mahama took office in 2013, he immediately introduced the Communications Services Tax Amendment Act to expand the  tax network for negotiations, "he tweeted to Elevy that the NDC would abolish it. ..

"We NDC are basically not against taxation. As the NPP has done in the past, we will come up with an imaginative slogan to condemn the tax principle, not exaggeration. But we are sticking to distorted and annoying taxes like levies that only force Ghanaians to endure more suffering.

"New National Democratic Council Government, God Happily, and in a Ghanaian slogan's vote-in 2025-will abolish the E Levy law, "he said.

The controversial levy began on Sunday, May 1 in public protest.

NDC has firmly refused to introduce a levy.

In their view, this is a disciplinary measure and is equivalent to double taxation. A bill was passed by Congress on Tuesday, March 29, after  a minority went on strike.

They left after their leader, Haruna Idris, said the NDCMP remained united in opposition politics.

On Tuesday, April 19, they petitioned the Supreme Court to prevent the start of tax credits. Hearings regarding this application will take place on Wednesday, April 4th.
